The Karate for Kids program teaches important life skills like goal-setting, perseverance, integrity and respect. The classes use martial arts training to develop fitness and self-confidence, along with physical skills like balance, coordination and self-control. This program includes our Kidz 'n' Power Child Safety curriculum, which was developed in partnership with AmberAlert and the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. Kidz 'n' Power training teaches bullying prevention, anti-abduction skills, and safety information like how to call 911 and what to do in case of a fire. The Karate for Kids program includes a system of rewards, in which students earn stars of various colors for their behavior in school, at home and in the martial arts class. These stars are placed on a patch that they wear on their uniforms, and the stars are awarded in class so that their fellow students can recognize their accomplishments. Students in the Karate for Kids program have the opportunity to join Black Belt Club, where they learn sparring skills (with an emphasis on control and respect) and weapons skills (to develop rhythm and coordination). Karate for Kids students also can join the Leadership Program, which teaches leadership skills and advanced weapons and self-defense skills.
